Concept
I designed an animation for opening books in a mobile reader app, where the home screen and reading view were technically two separate applications. The challenge was to make the transition feel like one seamless gesture while keeping the motion simple enough to perform smoothly on lower-end devices.
Process
Working within these constraints, I built a two-part sequence. On the home screen, the book cover scales and rotates open, ending just as the reader application loads. From there, the text fades in, creating the impression of one continuous flow across two systems.
By relying only on scale, rotation, and opacity, the animation stayed performant without losing impact. Approaching animation with these constraints was an eye-opening experience, as it pushed me to think more strategically about sequencing and continuity.
